In a bid to bring innovative solutions to the Insurtech industry, Inlaks, a Nigerian-based IT company, with operations in Ghana and Kenya today kicked off the first Insurtech Hackathon in Africa.

The Hackathon challenge themed, “Shaping the Future of Insurance”, is aimed at developing technologically-enabled solutions that solve major problems in the insurance sector.

The event, which gathered about 100 participants consisting of 20 teams of innovators to develop business and technical innovative solutions for the Insurance industry, started with an introduction of the teams and an opening speeche from Mr. Tope Dare, one of Inlaks’ Executive Directors.

Participants were trained on how to make an effective presentation by Mr. Adesina Adeigbe from Digital Jewels who shared key pitch points for the participants to know before preparing and presenting their pitches tomorrow before judges.

After that, the participants were asked to go back and continue working on their Insurtech solutions, with Mr. Maxwell Anumba, Software Developer at Inlaks Nigeria, and Mr. Idowu Jimoh, Head, Casualty & Liability Units at Leadway Assurance providing guidance to the different teams about their solutions.

That wrapped up Day 1 of the hackathon event and provided the participants with an opportunity to work on the solutions until tomorrow (July 28) when they will be pitching them to judges.
